Food Temptation

It’s the time of the year where our Muslim society fast for one whole month before the Hari Raya. It is more significant in my environment where left, right, front, behind, up and down are seated by Muslim colleagues. I of coz do not go on a fasting spree but I do respect them like it was in schools where we were taught to respect each other. I will avoid eating and drinking in front of them. If I were to eat or drink I would face away from them. But of coz I will normally drink in their presence unless I have been starving for like a week and desperately in need of some organic material for the pleasure of my stomach’s digestive juices.
We normally have “buka puasa” sessions with our vendor and of coz it’s their treat. Yesterday was a treat from Siemens, thanks Ho, Graham. The occasion was in Istana Hotel and there were plenty of food around. I normally would indulge in food and stuff myself up to the point that my pant and belt would break loose like the incredible hulk minus the hunkiness and looks. But yesterday was different, I don’t know if it was coz of my emo (yes I can be emo too), basically I took a piece of duck, chicken, lamb, a few dim sum, some prawns, 2 piece of curry chicken and a bowl of mixed ABC. I can assure you the meats were small pieces. If I kept count I swear I was eating only 20%, but I felt full. Enough bout me though…
It’s like this, are we (non Muslim) suppose to indulge in the occasions when we do not fast. I mean they go fasting with no food and drink for the day while you chomp down chunks and chunks of organic material. Do we feel grateful or something as we break fast? Do they? Another burning quest I seek is the indulgence into food during this occasion especially in hotel buffets. I know I am guilty of it as I used to eat like mad. I could not imagine the amount of food I ate every time at the end of the break fast session. I am not against breaking fast at such locations but to the individual themselves.
Don’t you think when you’ve paid for a buffet and then when the food is like free flowing, you tend to eat at little more than usual? It’s not like our tanks suddenly increase in size, but it nature I guess. Don’t you think that it’s like second nature where we tend to take and take when it’s available?
Do you do the same? Do you overeat at times? Are you able to control with all the temptations around?
