Remember the famous Ramli Burger which was so hot in town some time ago. I remember these stalls with the big Ramli sign and picture of a burger popping up practically every where in town like mushrooms. I guess at that time it was the first alternative to the all so famous beef burger and McChicken. I remember I made the burger man (as I calls him), make Big Mac ala Ramli style, not bad you know, not bad at all.

Then as I grew older and my pocket money got a little more in terms of value, the burgering times were mainly done in McDs or KFC. From then on, the springing of Ramli stalls seemed less significant and at times you thought they have actually decreases. Indeed after some time it did shrink in number as more and more fortunate brats youngsters get to savor in fast food chain rather than the old time stalls by the “kaki lima” walkway. But then I guess Ramli has made its name and fame as you can see its products in supermarkets every in town. I guess it’s gonna be Ramli burger ala home style with the deep fry method which a lot of younger kids still enjoys.

BTW, back here. I had dinner earlier and it was kinda not so filling so I stopped by at this burger stall back home for a little suppering. So I stopped and ordered my “daging special satu” (beef special one). I did not know why I sparked a conversation with the burger man, but it started off like this

Me: you all raya lama ah (you guys celebrate Raya for a long time ah)
Him: biasalah semua dari kampong jauh (normal la, all from kampong far away)
Me: you all ada cili sos sendiri ah (You all have your own Chilly sauce ah)
Him: ya, semua sendiri punya, cili sos, roti (yes all our own stuff, chilly sauce, bun)
Saya pergi training 3 bulan untuk buat burger (I went for training 3 months to learn to make burger)

The conversation goes on but the gist is that it seems even this OTAI burger is franchised. Accordingly they have like 108 stalls nationwide. But imagine, just to make this burger at these stalls, you need to attend training for 3 months. They must be pros and dedicated to the art of burger making. But I must say, their burgers do taste different from the rest out there. The bun is soft instead of hard and they don’t use margarine while cooking the meat. I also got it that the main outlet is in Batu Caves. I guess any things a business when u put a business edge in it.

I guess I am doing a lot of crap lately, including this, but I guess what inspired me is the dedication of people to make a living. Although many may things burger stalls are just hawkers, but after tonight, I guess all that’s gonna change for me at least. These guys are professionals and they are dedicated. Even I not that dedicated to get a professional certificate for my work related matters nowadays.

Another is I guess people who create the brand name Ramli and OTAI, are people who grabs the chance and believed in themselves. Imagine Ramli who had the famous fast food chain to battle with when he started the Ramli stall. And definitely OTAI who went on to challenge the existence of Ramli dominating the burger stalls market shares. These are chances that caught their attention and they grabbed it and made good use of it.

What bout you? Have any chances flown by you before? Did you manage to grab the chances and made full use of it, or you wasted it? Would you have the courage to grab hold of the chance and make full use of it knowing it would be a difficult struggle? All these questions and so little answers

A chance is a chance, taken or not, still a chance…
Would you want to regret taking the chance…
Or
Would you want to regret not taking the chance…

Ya, the street food is definitely the things, I’ve always found hawker food better than restaurant food.
But of coz there are exceptions!!!

Yup, the kick that only hawkers can give, not available when dining in restaurant

Dinner in nice restaurant - a few hundred bucks.

the oommph in hawker centres - priceless.

most burger stall r relatively okie, but not so healthy, furthermore cleanliness a big issue. chilli sauce too watery. Otai seems slightly more organized but still unhealthy, watered down chilli sauce yet CLEAN.
well done otai!! malaysia boleh, but try 2 b different, lah. u copy ramly burger stalls concept just improvised, etc.
