1. Wrong to sue; Param: Need for law to protect whistleblowers
• Student sued for defamation after reporting being forced to bribe
2. Cops Came at 2am, claim Women
• Police check on foreign women at 2am for surety of documents
I guess for more information you can read these in the star papers today or online at http://thestar.com.my. I heard bout these two stories from the radio and they are still having a debate on these matter now. I guess I was not really surprised and had a some what, finally its here thought. *shakes head smiling*
How many times have we heard of accidents, burglary, theft, lost of possession and many, many other stuff like that happens to someone we know, but ended in a more horrible way when it reached the authorities. And I thought that would be the worst but then now I know there are worse than worst, which has happened in our society.
I salute Foo Sze Kuan for her courage to challenge the forces that was to protect us. She broke some law and was stopped by the law enforcers. She was allegedly asked by the law enforcers to pay a bribe to them. She did as asked and then later lodge a report at ACA after being persuaded by her parents. She is now being sued by one of the law enforcers for defamation. I’m glad that she still stand tall on her stand regarding this matter. More over I’m glad that she is being backed up by Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz. This would be a good sign, as it is showing that we are on the right track.
On a different note are the women who reported being mistreated by the law enforcers. They reported that law enforcers are knocking on their doors at 2 am, just to check if they are really married and living at the address given. I find this absurdly disturbing. According to what I have heard on the radio just a while ago, one would need to committed an offense or the law enforcer has a warrant before they can so such things, otherwise it would be wrong and it is disrespecting one’s rights. This to me looks like harassment to me as well.
I guess our society has been bombarded with issues and issues lately. In addition, I find that these are issues that we would normally said “It’s Malaysia what”. Even before this matter came out, the debate was always there, of all the things we would say within ourselves and our circle of friends. I have heard tales where, people get scolded when reporting a case, people need to “belanja minum” just to get some documents done or something like, people avoiding summons by bribing etc. I guess it has been a norm whenever the subject is brought up. If I ask10 person, I would say at least 9.5 will answer me how bad our law enforcers are.
I guess the society we are living in today are awakening to such social illnesses and injecting virus buster to cure the currently chronic society. I do not deny I did contributed to the illness, but I have repented and I avoid breaking and contributing to it if I can help it. I guess the reason for me to do it and for so many others to do it as well is convenience.
I am supporting these people for standing out and voicing out the thoughts of so many members of the society in all levels. I am definitely one of them. Looking at the wind of change that points us to a healthier society, we should move with it.
I guess it is so often that we take what we have heard and some experiences that we have and we make a big conclusion. I guess they are tying to show us that, there are bad eggs and there are good eggs. I guess we have help everyone in getting rid of the bad eggs and of coz we need to make sure we are not one of the bad eggs in the first place. It all starts with the individuals and then only the society will flourish and become a healthy one.
Have you had these kinda bad experiences?
Do you judge the whole basket because of the few bad eggs?
Should we be judging based on the bad eggs or the good ones?
