Some of the best places for food often blossoms in the weirdest part of the city. I have heard of this place for quite some time and the reputation of the food there is no less than “best” to describe it. I was deterred to try this delicacy because of the perception of the place where this stall is located.
This place is in Pandan Indah and the delicacy is fish head noodle. I remembered that this dish used to be one of the must order dish at any restaurant if you are eating noodles. The dish which serves as soup was really an essential as we like to have soup for dinner.
The location
If you are traveling from MRR2 from Gombak to Kesas highway, then make a left turn to Pandan Indah. As you drive, keep to your left and you will pass the first traffic light you will see BCB bank on you right and Putra bus station on your left. After the Putra bus station there is a left turn, turn into this road. As you drive on you will see stalls on your left and a condominium on your right. It is the last stall on your left. Parking is a problem as there are no dedicated parking lots.
The deterrent for me to eat at this stall is the smell. There is a big drain located just next to the stall. As you walk past, the smell definitely hinders you to go forth, but if you take up the courage and step forth, it is worth it. As you sit down at the table, you do not smell it, or was it the taste of the food has overcome the rest of the smell.
The stall specializes in fish head noodles and they also sell prawn noodles as well as porridge. Beside this stall there is a fried seafood stall next to it which is also well known. I did not have the stomach for the seafood so I tried the fish head noodles.
The fish head noodle was exactly like what I used to eat during my younger years. It has a mix of preserved vegetables, tomatoes, evaporated milk, and of coz fried fish. It was rich in tastes and definitely a joy for my taste buds. A thing to note is the fish; it has no fishy smell and taste at all. The fish was prepared in a way that it rids of all the fishy smell and taste. If you do not eat fish outside or inside the house because of the smell, this is definitely a taste you must try. It’s an eye opener.
The cost of a bowl of fish head noodle is RM 4 which I can say is value for the money. One bowl comes with ample or I would say a lot of noodles and it is definitely going to make you full. It’s just difficult to find value for money especially in this time where inflation is so high.
It sometimes puzzles me that most of the best food that I have encountered resides at these ungodly places. But there is just no substitute for good for especially for Chinese like me. No matter where the place may be, how smelly it may be, how dirty it may be, there will still be patrons if the food is good. And when I say patrons, it’s not just people like you and me or the lower income group. I have seen Mercedes and BMW parked at the roadside of a stall that looks like a rundown place and infested with viruses. That is how good the food was and how we would travel and look for good food.
Enjoy the food.
Bon Appetite.
