Posted under Everyday Life & Life & My Thoughts

I have started my Chinese New Year leave today, hooray! With just 3 more days to Chinese New Year, things are just getting in their place by themselves. The festive season with it’s hot weather, the spring cleaning of the house and even work place, the Chinese New Year songs with “Gong Xi Gong Xi” is just filling the air space, at least my air space.Although I have escaped the torture of work at least for the next 2 weeks, but today I still had to rush to get my car fixed and then changing it’s auto gear oil as well. I don’t think I want to be caught in the middle of nowhere during this festive holidays. Even if I were to stop in front of the shop also I might not get help.

I managed to get all my stuff done in the earlier part of the day which ended at about 2 in the afternoon. I was quite hungry so I decided to drop by the chicken slaughter house, KFC, for some fried chicken, it’s been awhile since I had fried chicken ala fast food style. I thought that since I did not take breakfast, I would be hungry enough to take the 3 piece dinner plate ordeal. So I bought my chickens and added a large whipped potato, which I just adore.

Back home, I only managed to finish the meal in an hour’s time. That is after I forcefully stuff the last remaining piece of chicken and a few spoonful of whipped potato. I just could not believe myself, it was like yesterday when I could eat chicken rice with additional of 4 bowls of rice. Either I am really getting old, or my intestines are getting smaller due to my diet. I don’t know if this is good or not, but at least I am still able to eat and I did not waste as I ate all of them. That is why my tummy is not feeling so good. I think it’s bloated. I think it needs rest. I think it needs some gentle loving care. Anyone care to provide some gentle loving care? It will be greatly appreciated!

Come to think of it, how many times have we wasted food? I know I am guilty of it, although I try my very best not to do so. I always have the habit of finishing my food, speck clean that’s it. It’s like the Chinese saying “Mei Yan Jiu Gang”. It’s been a habit that has been in me and I don’t know when it started. I know that we all do not really think about hunger or rations as it would not have crossed our minds in our society. But then, out there, there are so many that have to bear with hunger and a majority of them are children.

Hunger has been around the world for quite some time, but then it has never even crossed our minds when we throw away leftovers after a good meal. How many times have we ordered food for a meal which we find that we could not finish? I know I have. I think we are never aware that we are so much fortunate than others in this small little world. I think if we were to serve the leftovers that we throw away for every meal that we had for a duration of one week, I guess it might save the lives of so many others dying of hunger.

I know that sometimes we could not avoid it, but then, if we were to be more conscious and do not practice wasteful habits, we could make a difference. We can make a big impact by allowing the younger generation to realize this as they will be shaped in turn to shape our society. If we are do not waste, then there will be plenty left for other as well as ourselves for a later time. The best feeling would be not to waste food which may save lives out there. It is our duty to ensure that we all survive and reaching out to help others will mean so much to others.

I guess this festive season would be a good start to cultivating this attitude of not wasting. By that I do not mean that you should stuff everything and get sick, but to be considerate to your own appetite and think of all those hungry children, when you order a 10 course feast for your own pleasure of appetite. A little effort goes a long way.

    *rubs your bloated tummy*

Well, when I was young I was trained by my parents not to waste food and to think about the people who live in Ethiopia and Bosnia. And my Dad will always remind me and my siblings to not waste a single grain of rice because the paddy farmers took a very long time to harvest the rice and also to plant them. Basically all those teachings did not leave my mind since and I appreciate food more than anyone could think of.

Usually if I cannot finish something I will wrap it up and keep it in the refrigerator and when I am hungry I will just heat it up and gobble it down. Some say it’s unhealthy but to me wasting the food is not a good thing either.

But nowadays people don’t seem to appreciate the food lay down in front of them anymore. It’s either they waste it or just leave it untouched if they don’t like it. Sigh … What is becoming of this society? And the children of the future?

I feel so much better now, thanks dear.
I guess we are living in a very comfortable society, where hunger a thing of the past, and that is a good thing. But then I guess we should look back or across to those who still have to fight again hunger elsewhere. I guess education on history and the news shall be our medium for educating them. Let’s all build a society which will be envied by all, yesterday, today and tomorrow!
    Cheers
