My parents were invited for a wedding dinner by some old friends from hometown. It was their wedding daughter’s wedding and they have invited my parent as it was kind of like gathering of the old hometown community.
The wedding was held at Damansara Palace some where near to One Utama and IKEA. I presume it was a very grand wedding especially for the couple as my parents were seated at table number 80, and it was easily by the hundred that night. Imagine having your wedding dinner of that size.
The food was again of banquet style, the normal was there such as the prawns, chicken, shark fin, suckling pig and stuff like that. What were interesting are a few dishes that was out of the ordinary. They served a fish called “Long Dan” which supposedly cost about a mere 300 bucks per fish outside at your local coffee shop restaurant, which is if they serve it. Accordingly it’s a fish that you can rarely find outside but the expensive places. Another dish that was served was “Fut Tiu Qiang” (Buddha Jump Over The Wall), which is also a rare cuisine for a wedding dinner. If you like these exotic food then you would know it and one good place to taste this dish is in Nilai. The main ingredient in this dish is the well known abalone each. I still do not know why these have been rated so highly, but then there must be an explanation to it.
As for this friend of my parents, I guess he had made it big over the years and this is just one way of showing and rank his status among his friends. I guess when you make it big, it just does not matter bout money, it’s the status that we want to let others know.
I was watching discovery channel that night and they were showing cuisines from China. Imagine if you want to be a chef, you have to undergo a 3 year course where it consists of 2 years of theory and 1 year of practical. They showed the “Man Han Banquet” which includes hundreds of dishes and it takes 3 days and 6 meals to finish tasting them. I guess when it comes to food, Chinese definitely knows their stuffs. If you look into the history of culinary of the Chinese, you will be astounded. The number, names, ingredients, colour etc of the food and dishes are just enormous. I myself have indulged myself to food and of coz, especially good food.
What’s your preference on food?
