Snatch & Steal

Posted under Everyday Life & Life & My Thoughts

I was having a friendly chat with my fellow clay pot chicken rice seller the other day. I do not recall what topic I started with her, but then it all ended up with the snatch thieves and stealing topic. It was really not a new topic, but a topic that should not be taken lightly.

If you remember the papers did reported a death earlier this week… the death of a girl. A little on this case which happened though at night, but it was in front of people having their supper at a nearby mamak stall. This guy went and grabbed her bag and there must have been some struggling. The outcome was outrages where she was stabbed by this guy. The girl was unfortunate as the wound was at the heart and it was fatal. A good samaritan tailed the guy and managed to drop him from his motorcycle, resulting him to drop the bag but he got away.

This has been lingering in my mind for some time, to think that all that happened just because of some cold hard cash that he assumed the amount in the bag. Is the cost of money worth our lives? I am really confused…

The lady was telling me that she saw someone was beaten the hell out of him the other day. She assumed that he was stealing, a young chap he was. I am not one that condone to violence in solving problem, but then I do feel they should be taught a lesson, a good one. Then again, is violence going to solve it? I doubt it…

I know of people who detest stealing and stuffs like that. In these community, no matter who you are or how old you are, if you are caught stealing, you will get the bashing of your life before you are presented to the police officers. Yet this does not really deter them from the dirty old acts.

In recent years and months, snatch thieves have just been increasing in an alarming rate, at a rate that sends chills down our spines. These community problems actually existed since umpteen of years ago, but then it has been a national level problem when these acts start to take lives with it. I believe every one of us has read or at least been told that there are cases of snatch thieves causing people to go into coma and even death. We even have detachable handbags now to ease their job of snatching it away.

Have we come to such a stage where we have lost all our humanity traits? Is cash worth the lives of living breathing humans? Another question that I bet these snatch thieves never asked themselves before, what if that is your parents/siblings/relatives? I know that we all need money to survive in this cruel world but then there is so much else we can do. What’s wrong if you get a decent job which does not really pay excellent? At least you get money at the end of the month and it pays for the rent and food. Or you can go and do some small businesses. I can see a lot of stalls popping out like mushrooms here and there. You don’t see them going out and committing crime do you. There’s lots of things we can do to satisfy our thirst and hunger for materialistic satisfaction, so pick the right route!

I believe that snatch thieves are now one of our number one society’s enemy and illness that we want to get rid of, fast and to extinction. I have started to see why I have heard of people getting killed just for stealing or snatching, and I can tell you that it’s the truth, people do get killed in the process. I know I should not, but I am losing my sympathy for these people, which I categorize lower than any living beings. I guess that if I caught them I would do the same thing especially if the victim is someone I know. Then only will the person be handed to the police for the law to take action.

Don’t snatch
Don’t steal
You need $
You earn $
With sweat
With effort

i do not understand why crime rates are leaping bounds nowadays. is standard of living getting beyond our control? then how come govt isn’t doing anything?

my dad was in the papers 2 months ago for being helpful for nabbing a snatch thief. (boast abit, hehe :P) but the story is, there’s SO MANY cases happening right under our nose! what is wrong with these people? have they nothing else to do? can’t even find a simple job as dishwasher or something? few hundred bucks a month definitely not enough if you splurge but should be able to tide over for a while if you use wisely.

there’s also sooooo many murder cases reported here in singapore. up to this point, i have no idea and i have no interest in following up. questions like, “Why do these people commit the crime?”, “Why do they do it unto a harmless lil’ girl?” are headlines all over the papers. it’s become stale news to me.

what is this world coming to? i’m disappointed. i thought as we progress, we should have better living standards, lifestyle, etc. but turned out the ugly sides are coming from all corners.

p/s: paiseh for the long-winded comment.

Speak your mind, all comments are accepted, long or short.
We are definitely living in a place of advancement in a lot of aspect, except humanity. To think that we are so advanced yet so savage and barbaric actually gives me the chills.
Bravo that your dad helped someone, I am proud and we should follow in his foot step.
Let’s hope for a better tomorrow… a parody that I still want to believe in though
