Today is the birthday, the birthday of my country. Today will be its 49th birthday and I am proud of it. I’m proud to be called a citizen of my country… I am proud to be a Malaysian.
I have not been out celebrating this occasion for some time, most probably because of I’m getting old, my body I mean, and I’m always a seven year old kid if you are wondering. I went out for dinner with a few friends… they are a gem and it’s hard to find gems nowadays.
Dinner was good and of coz, watermelon marshmallows are just so sweet, thanks. We ate, we chat, we roam for a while before deciding to hit back home. As I drove towards and stopped at the crossroad of Ampang Park and Citibank, the scene amazed me. There were a group of youngster, most probably at the age between the age of 10 to 15, cycling. They were cycling to join the countdown party in town, countdown to our nations 49th Independence Day! What a sight! As I drove on, I saw another group going by on bicycles. The patriotism is burning in these youngsters, or may be they just got a passport to out and have fun until the wee hours.
I’d really like to thank them for showing me that patriotism does exist and we do love our country. There is no doubt about it. They showed me that they carry the flame and they show it. We as adults… does not seem to carry such flames around anymore, may be thinking that other will so we need not. I believe that we all love our country and we would like to uphold the country in all its fame and glory.
May be we just do it in a different way, like hugs and kisses in pubs and discos. Well I guess we show our patriotism in different manner. This is good, diversity, like our harmonious community.
Let’s unite hand in hand
Ensuring all is well
Singing our songs in diversity
United harmoniously across the land
Happy 49th Independence Day
My dear country
Malaysia

I always feel that it is not exactly true for me from Sarawak. Our actual independence isn’t in 1957 but 1963. It is not 31 Aug but 16 Sept. We should be talking about the birth of Malaysia, not the independence of Malaya. Hmmm.. we can debate all day on this issue but what is the point? No freedom of speech here so I might as well shut my mouth up.

There is truth in what you say…
But I believe in the spirit of independence, not so much on dates…
Like you say no point arguing on this…
Let’s just keep the spirit up as we are all Malaysians
