Food In Pinas

I’m listening to Eric Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight at this moment. And I really felt wonderful. I have met a few interesting and wonderful people which I cannot deny that I miss them. Thanks to all of you for meeting up and made it a trip that I would say wonderful. Thanks houseband, Lizza, Ayesa, Jessica and of coz my partner in crime. Thanks for the hospitality and time spent. I really treasure them.

I know I have not been updating about my trip. Well no excuses, here’s some stuff from the trip. As most of you already know this by now, I was in Philippines during my long absence. To be exact was mostly roaming in Malate and Makati.

Food there are kind of like Chinese food here back home with a twist. It will be difficult to explain as the only way is to taste it so I’ll skip that part. I was really lucky as I got the chance to taste so many local dishes like adobo, sinigang, lapu-lapu, laing, balulo and some other dishes which I do not remember the name and well, those that I put also may have spelling mistake so do correct me please.

Apart from that, meals at Café Havana was one of the best lunch there. Say spastic! Well, only a few would know but what the heck. Great to have met both of you for the lunch and it was really fun. Good food and well, great companions. I miss Café Havana now!

Aristocrat, Pantalan and Cafe Adriatico were on the list too. They serve really good food and of coz the ambience. Pantalan is by the bay where you can see ships and Adriatico is like Café Havana. Their dessert was like incredible, mango crepes. One that I cannot forget the taste until now.

Then there are some fast food chains like McDonalds and KFC. Well, most of the things are the same except that they all come with rice. They have the McRice burger which replaces the bun with rice sprinkled with some black sesame and they have coke float with chocolate. I tell you that it was delicious but then again too much rice for me is not that good. KFC does not have two piece like what we have but instead they serve with rice. One of the thing that they have is the orange chicken which comes with rice as well with something like popcorn chicken and orange sauce.

They have their ranges of food that we do not have like Chow King for Chinese, yellow cab pizza and Jollibee. Of coz there are many other which I just cannot remember and they all have deliveries. Managed to grab some street food too like fried peanuts and some sort of ling chee kang.

The one food that was frequented is none other than burger machine! Well this is like our Ramli burger stall but operates 24 hours a day and the staff works on shift. Well I have been eating there like frequently until I got to know almost all the staff that manned the stall I go to. I have tried almost all the burgers that they have and they are simply delicious and I know of some people that are drooling for a cheesy bacon dog now.

Well that is like what I have been doing there, yes, I really eat over there. I really miss the food there are we can get pork everywhere and in all the restaurants.

Well that is a brief of what I was doing there most of the time, eating. Well, I can not go without food and especially good and tasty food.

Firstly I must apologize for not being able to visit most of your places as I have been busy of late and of coz I have been out a lot too so that contributed to some of the lack of time for visitation. I will be crashing to all of your places soon again… so wait for me with open arms ok.

Dinner At Dome 29th November 2006

As I mentioned earlier, above are some of the photos which I took during dinner there at Dome. It was really a nice dinner and it just makes me smile… from inside of my heart. The ambience and company was one of the best combinations I could have asked for. As for the food, they were just great. The chicken pie is a famous dish and it does live up to the expectations that were given upon it. The tuna wrap looks real tempting along with the wedges and the sandwich which I forgot the name of.

Thanks again for the dinner and the wonderful time together.

Breaking Fast at KL Hilton
Expressed by zeroimpact on Thursday, 12th October, 2006, 284, 41 at 15:05:40 878

I was invited for the “Buka Puasa” session or “Breaking Fast” session held in KL Hilton yesterday. For the non muslim, during this month of Ramadhan, the muslim followers have to fast for one month, where they start from morning and break fast in the evening. Hence the breaking fast session.

Well I had to go home yesterday before joining them for the breaking fast session. When I reached the hotel, I was sure I’d be able to make it just before they start breaking fast, but alas, I had to spend half an hour making rounds in the car park and still did not get a parking space. I got frustrated and parked in the middle of the road where another four cars had parked there. I had no choice and I don’t do all these kind of things normally, for your information.

I shot right up to level six where the event was being held and then got a seat with some of my managers and senior managers. Firstly I thought why they had a glass of yellow liquid each and then they started to like order red bull for me and my colleague. I said fine and then I went out with him to grab food as I was kind of hungry. When I got back, I saw the same yellow liquid on my table, apparently that is the red bull they were talking bout. It just kept me wondering why they would name it red bull when it’s yellow in colour. Yellow bull does not sound nice? I’m still pondering on that.

I find this buffet session a bit confusing as they have a few hallways with food and some of them are the same traditional food. They also have fresh oysters and Japanese cuisine as well as desserts. I took some meat ranging from chicken, beef and fish. But before that of coz, how can I resist oysters. I can down oysters by a dozen anytime. However this time I just took three. Then I headed to the Japanese bar and grabbed some salmon and temaki. I like to eat these with wasabe, plain and pure wasabe, and no soya sauce for me please. Another delicacy that I really enjoyed was the octopus tentacles, no one seem to take it but me. As for dessert, it was Haagen Dasz ice cream.

The session was alright. As for the food, I find the only thing that intrigue my taste buds were the Japanese bar and also the Haagen Dasz ice cream. The night was good as there were mingling and chatting. It’s just fun to go for eating sessions like this. I got to know some new friends from the working world and they are just friendly. The price per person for that meal was, if I am not mistaken, RM125. Very expensive and I really don’t think the food really matched the price. But then again who am I to complain about that.

Cherry

I suddenly have this craving to eat cherry. No it’s not those artificial coloured cherries in a jar that people use to decorate cakes or other pastries. I’m talking about the cherry as in fruits, fresh cherries.

I know it’s not easy to find and it’s very expensive. However I just have this craving, I don’t know why. Anyone has the heart to get me some cherries? Anyone at all…

Chocolates And Marshmallows

Chocolates & Marshmallows

I was in a conversation with someone after the last post. I was reminded to smile. Something that I always try to make others do. I did not know what came over me just now, but it’s now better, at least I felt better.

I went to Beryl’s so called chocolate shop yesterday. It’s a place where they have small machine to show how chocolates were made and of coz to sell their chocolates. We went there after lunch but then we did not buy any thing from there.

I think sometimes emotions just sort of take over for a moment. However things are better as I know that I have so much around me. I’m content. I love chocolates and I can finish them all alone, so Pink Cotton, if you cannot finish your’s then I’d be happy to help… just kidding.

These chocolates and marshmallows were given to me by friends and well, it’s been sometime but then it’s still sweet to my memories. I especially love chocolates and when it comes to dark ones… I’d kill for it. As for marshmallows, it was my first time tasting one, well I’m outdated, after so long, that was the first time.

I’m really glad that I have friends that care about me and that I care about too. I have made quite a number of new friends of late and they all rock… or should I say you all rock. Yes… you are my friends, all of you reading this. Some of you have met me, went out with me, chat with me, emailed me or even leaving comments here.

I just want to say I appreciate all of you and am really glad you are all my friends
I will always be here or there for you, just like you have been there or here for me.
Come everyone, let’s smile and just be happy, smile with me and smile with the world too.

Haagan Dazs Fondue Web

When I mention yesterday it’s actually Saturday, should have posted it on Sunday but I was, don’t remember what kept me from doing so. Yesterday was a blast… nonetheless. First we had dinner of sandwiches. Then we had the all so sinful fondue. After that was chilling out to Denise.

You know I called in a day earlier to Haagen Dazs and this chap told me that we do not need to reserve the fondue and he told me it’s like for 2 person. We had 4 person so we thought it would just be dessert so it would do even if it’s for 2 person and that is why we had dinner prior to the fondue. To my surprise and a bit to my anger, they have to check if they still got fondue and I said to myself if then don’t have then I would be like so disappointed. May be go on a rampage as well because the guy on the phone told me we don’t need to reserve or something like that. But then everything went well and yes they have fondue so it was fondue for us. Another shocking discovery is that the waitress told me the fondue could easily feed 4 to 6 person… I mean what the… the guy told me it was for 2. Seriously, either that guy was pulling my leg or I must have called the wrong number. So without further hesitation, the waitress served us water and then the ice cream fondue… Haagen Dazs style. The fondue was filled with ice cream balls, chipsmore cookies, fruits, and most of all the nuts and chocolate dip… yum yum yum.

The taste of ice cream balls covered with chocolate and nuts is just so heavenly… a combination that brings cloud 9 by your side. The sinful dessert was just heavenly to the taste and I was with a great crowd, so that made it so much more enjoyable. And thanks to you, yes both of you, I finally tasted my first marshmallow. And to top it off, it was so colourful. Thanks.

After dessert, we adjourned to one of my favourite place to chill, Alexis. This time it was Denise Mininfield and she is good. Her voice was powerful and she’s a great entertainer. Apart from that, Lewis was there to play the drums, another display of great drum works. The night was so entertaining and it was great. Chilling to live gigs may have just been introduced to me, but the interest and mark it made have just blossomed tremendously in me. The guest stars yesterday was not only Lewis, but Arvinder and Keeran. Arvinder is a Banghra vocalist and Keeran plays a special kind of drum which I do not remember the name. They were both great nonetheless. I was so thrilled yesterday and I had lot’s of fun too. I got to meet almost all of them the last 2 days. Lewis, Bruno, Chris, Arvinder, Keeran, Denise, they are just great and friendly people.

Oh and Bryan my man… it’s nice to get to know you. We will chill sometime ok… it will be so much fun to chill with you…

Aunt’s Birthday

Was held last weekend… and it was fun. When it comes to family… you can never run away from fun and laughter. I liked it, it was fun… all my cousins they are so much fun too.

We had dinner at the corner restaurant next to swiss garden… I think the restaurant is call Regal something. The restaurant is located along Jalan Pudu and if you come from the Berjaya Times Square way and it is on your left then you turn right at the traffic light. Go further on this road and you will see a big screen tv on your left as well as the Bukit Aman Police Headquarter. This restaurant is just on your left at the turning to your left. Our family has been there for dinner a few times for occasions and stuff like that but normally was 1 table and more towards our own family and cousin. But this was different. You know the surprise parties… yup this is one of it and it’s for my aunt. We had 2 tables and 3 families involved.

The food here is not bad and they have been operating for umpteen of years. But this occasion… food was not the primary focus. The gathering of 3 families together, the elderly ones as well as the younger ones, it was awesome. The laughter that we had… priceless, I must say. We did not really eat much as we were all too busy chatting and laughing and thinking of how to break the happy news to my aunt as she still did not know.

We bought a cake as well and though it was a 1kg fruit cake… it was very delicious. We were halfway through the dinner and then the waitress brought out the cake… *sniff sniff* it was so nice. It’s just so nice to do something nice for our loved ones. We also bought her a watch. I could see that everyone was happy, as all of us were there. All, except another aunt who passed away. *close eyes*

I love them all no matter where they are… I love you…

Nasi Ganja (Marijuana)

The Ganja Man
The Ganja man

Finished Nasi Ganja
Finished my Nasi Ganja

Was my lunch yesterday… in Glenmarie. I was in Glenmarie doing a User Acceptance Test of one of my projects and although it kind of failed miserably, but my appetite and tummy was quite happy. It’s been quite sometime since I had Nasi Ganja (marijuana) here in Glenmarie. I’m sorry but I really don’t know how to describe the place because they don’t even have a name for this mamak style rice. Ok la let me try to explain how to get there. From the Giant in Glenmarie, drive to the main road where the crossroad is. Then make a right turn and go along the road. Then you will reach a t junction with traffic light… go past this one. At the next traffic light turn left… if you go beyond this turning left will bring you to Federal Highway. back to the turn, after that you turn to your left immediately and go straight. You will see a Chevrolet authorized service center on your right which is a corner lot. This nasi ganja shop is 2 shops before that.

If you know the average nasi kandar, this is quite similar to it, except they add in some crispy, powder like substance which I believe is meat of some sort, or may be not, and that is the ganja I am speaking of. They have a variety of curry ranging from fish, prawn, sotong, chickent, beef, lamb and so many others. Normally my diet here will be fried chicken and fish eggs. By default, they will add curry to your rice no matter what you want in terms of meat and vegetables. The curry they add is a mixture of no less than 8 kinds from all the dishes which are available. Normally such a mixture may upset any tummy, but surprisingly, it does not here, so it’s kind of safe when you see them mix all sort of curry to your rice dishes like a storm occurred and happen to flood your plate.

I must say the food was really tasty and the curry was blended just nice… no tummy upset and definitely a must try if you happen to be in Glenmarie. Like what my malay colleague says when you see a mamak stall which is crowded by even Chinese who are willing to wait for the food… it must be good. I truly believe in that as we do go high and low for food… good food that is.

A word of advice… always ask for “ganja lebih” (more marijuana), you will not regret it. The feeling of high high in the air… heavenly tasty!

ps: It took me a few hours to get the pics up so angel and doc doc better be grateful ah… *grins*

Steamboat With Liquor
Expressed by zeroimpact on Sunday, 25th June, 2006, 175, 25 at 23:16:49 220

It’s located just behind the new Cycle & Carriage along Federal Highway. The restaurant is called New Tin Jian if I am not mistaken… I am just bad with name. I’ll try to give some direction from the Penang bridge look alike bridge turning into Sunway. From here you drive along Federal Highway towards KL. Turn to the left after the new Cycle & Carriage and another left at the traffic light. The restaurant is on you right after the turn.

The order was “Zhou Wo” which is liquor steamboat and some other dishes which included pork trotter. Needless to say these are the 2 famous dishes here and they are wonderful. It’s hard to describe the pork trotter but I have to say it’s crispy and the black pepper thousand island look alike sauce is just mouth watering. Crispee…

Alright, the main dish is the liquor steamboat, I did not ask the waitress or the owner but according to one of my friend who brought us there… there’s like 5 kinds of Chinese liquor mixed in this steamboat. This steamboat is not buffet style and it comes in the order of small medium and large. The good things is that the steamboat is like a clay pot and the clay pot is of one size… so the quality kind of maintains and the different sizes is mainly the amount of food that is provided. The liquor soup is not too strong at first and it’s smells nice and makes a very good and delicious soup.

The ingredients that is given for this steamboat includes crabs and prawns. Apart from that they have scallops and other seafood which I do not know how to name. The seafood that are given are not small but decent to large size. A very good compliment to the liquor steamboat. I drank a few bowl of the soup and we added soup as well… but towards the end, after a few rounds of adding soup and stuff, the soup began to thickens with the smell and taste of liquor. The other point to note is that if you want to drink the soup, try to drink it while it’s hot, as it cools down it gets harder to drink.

It was my first time and I believe that even if you are not into liquor, you should try it, may be once at least. It will change your perspective on steamboat, from the soup to porridge and then now liquor, it changed mine already. What else will they think of next time?

I Had Hot Soup
Expressed by zeroimpact on Thursday, 22nd June, 2006, 172, 25 at 09:47:24 657

Posted under Food & Me

The night before yesterday. The place is in Seri Kembangan. To get there you need to know the way to the Mines. Then you turn into Seri Kembangan and you will reach a traffic light turning into where South City Plaza is. From here, take the first turn on your left and then the first turn on your right. Go along the road and go straight after a crossroad. After the crossroad you will see one big sign “Ahecko Hot Soup”, something like that, on your left. You can park your car and then head on in.

My last visit there was like last year and they did not have the sign board then. The food is as expected with a little twist which I liked. The hot soup is not like the sechuan hot, this is like the pepper and ginger hot. And surprisingly the hotness increases since my last visit and I liked it very much. For the ingredients you can choose from pork, chicken, internal organs… as you liked it. Apart from that we had the chef’s special tofu and a vegetable stir fried.

We barely managed to finish the food, but I must say it’s one of the best hot soup around. If you are into the peppery hotness and I must warn you, it’s hotter than you can imagine at the moment unless you absolutely like pepper. The other food I must say is so so. We actually brought a friend who came from Singapore for training out eating. If not I would not have gone there too. A bit lame but what to do, work all day, so night go home rest lo.

If you did tried it before, tell me if you liked it?
I know pictures tells tales but I guess getting you to imagine the claypot, the steam from the boiling soup and the hot pepper soup is a challenge… can you imagine it… yum yum yum.
