Mobile Phones And Students
The ban has been lifted by the ministry of education, but does that mean that it’s the correct thing to do? I’m referring to the lift of the ban on mobile phones in schools. I believe that the ministry has it’s reason to lift the ban and there are of cause reasons that it is being agreed or disagreed.
I believe that the parents have their point when they support this decision because they want to contact their children. The basis is still concern over the students by the parents where so much social illness has taken its toll on the parent’s paranoia. Every parent will be protective and concern over their child no matter what age they are. However, I believe that they are not concern of their child in the school during school hours, but their whereabouts before and after school hours.
For some of the educators, the disagreeing factor is that it’s a distraction for the students as well as their peers. Imagine the distraction in the class when the teacher is teaching history and the phone rings. Another one could be the concern of social illnesses in schools such as jealousy and theft or better illustrated, temptation.
I believe every one has their grounds, but would it be appropriate. Some has commented that mobile phones are a necessity, but we still see many of our poorer counterparts, relying on the faithful public telephones. If one wish to contact their family in schools, I believe public phones and even phones in the administration office in the school would be sufficient, unless it’s for other purposes. It would only post a problem, from my point of view, if the parents wish to contact their child during school hours, which still can be done via the school administration office. I believe the constraint here would be that the parent needs to know their child’s details, which I believe many parents do not know.
It’s also a shame that in human nature, temptations often destroys one’s virtues. We tend to differentiate, compare and boast which in turn leads to one or more social issues. With so many models and brands out there in the market, comparison of the latest and expensive model is bound to be a conversation topic. With the high priced phone, it’s a temptation for other to steal it, and then the school will be blamed for not disciplining its students. I believe that is one of the main point when school rules states that students are not to bring too much money or expensive things to school.
To me I believe that mobile phones may b a necessity for the average employee, but to students, they are still a luxury especially when you plan to use it in schools. If you were to carry an expensive phone around, you would tend to be more prone to dangers. I do not see carrying a mobile phone will lessen but increase the danger to them. Educating them to be alert of the environment would be better in curbing these unforeseen circumstances. I guess the schools will have to take it from here in overseeing and provisioning of the use of mobile phones in schools.
